News Gambia Montage - Roineabhal Bed and Breakfast
A lot has happened since I wrote the Autumn newsletter.

Roger and I went to The Gambia for 2 weeks in the sun. We managed to see a lot during our visit, which included visiting a local school, a trip down to the fish port in Bauccau, where we were staying and a safari into neighbouring Senegal. We stroked friendly crocodiles, sailed up The Gambian River and saw lots and lots of birds; we ate with monkeys who wanted to steal our lunch and met so many beautiful local people. We also visited the slave museum at Kunta Kinteh island (previously known as James Island). The experience was incredibly harrowing and illuminated the extent of the African slave trade at the turn of the 17th century. Sainey, a native Gambian was our guide throughout our trip and looked after us so well. He accompanied us on all our trips out and even took us back to his home and introduced us to his whole family, including his little boy Babou. As a country it didn’t disappoint and we both hope to visit it again one day!

On our return to London we fitted in a visit to Jess and Elizabeth’s in Fulham. The following weekend, back home we hosted Liz and Sam who came all the way up from Norfolk to see us. It’s always so much fun catching up with old friends, which we never seem to find enough time to do during the summer months.

Mum has had several bad falls this year and suffered one shortly after our return from holiday, so she will be staying with us until she feels better. Mary our retired district nurse from Carradale was house, dog and mum sitting while we were on holiday. It was a comfort to know that everything was being so well looked after.

It has been nice to see Kim more over these past two months. She has been using Roineabhal as a base since October. Apart from meeting up with some of her artists she has been visiting art galleries and spending time working at Resipole with Andrew Sinclair. She has been back down to London a couple of times but will not be down there full time until January when she moves into her new flat in Aldgate.

Ben was also home for a week. He had tickets for Murrayfield to see the Scotland-Australia game last weekend and the weekend before watched Scotland play the All Blacks. Even I, who isn’t a rugby fan thought them both exciting games to watch on the T.V.

It will be nice to have the children home for the festivities, including Jenny, who didn’t make it over from Sweden last year, instead spending it with Mattias, in their cabin in Lapland. By all accounts, they have had a busy year. Jenny is in the middle of completing a course in Swedish and has just launched a solo exhibition of work in Stockholm.

All the best for Christmas and New Year!!
